Greg Englesbe Haunts the Capoolong and Barnegat Trails

Greg Englesbe’s delight in the hikes and campout spots of New Jersey has resulted in visits by his family to a number of the most popular natural regions of the state.  Capoolong Creek Wildlife Management Area, Barnegat Branch Trail and Parkway Trail, which accesses what is known as the Greater Philadelphia trail network, are only a few of the greenway and bikeway trails the Englesbes have explored.  The Capoolong Creek Wildlife Management Area, site of the Capoolong Creek Trail, or part of the Skylands Trail network, is around 4 miles long and is quite linear, featuring a ride through an impressive hardwood forest of some age which features sycamores and red and silver varieties of maples.  The Capoolong Creek Trail sees the Englesbe’s bikers, or hikers, as the case may be, following the route of the defunct Lehigh Valley Railroad, a spur of the line which once ended in Pittstown, known for its luscious peaches which were shipped back to the city.  A double whammy: history and forest beauty on this short ride for a morning.

The Englesbes can view occasional reminders of the railroad bed, especially at the south end of the trail where the old train station awaits restoration.  The Trout Lily and Spring Beauties bloom along the trail in spring and summer, and views of the stream alongside the trail are relaxing.  Birds include the Northern Parula, Yellow, Black-throated Blue, Yellow-rumped and Black-and-white along with Ovenbird and Wood Thrush.  On the outer edges of the trees one might spy Blue-headed, Yellow-throated and Red-eyed varieties.

Greg Englesbe Recalls Ups and Downs of Mortgage Lending

The mortgage industry of Greg Englesbe has estimated that money-lenders created somewhere between 55 and 700 million dollars in property loans in the period between 1820 and 1860, with the proliferation of new banks established in the United States.  National bank charters and the creation of nationalized currency helped to protect the federal treasury, while the universal currency replaced bonds which had been previously issued by states and banks.  Nonetheless, restrictions were placed on national banks regarding investing in mortgages and long-term investments.

Greg Englesbe Stakes His Future in Cherry Hill New Jersey

Through a progression of important positions of responsibility, Greg Englesbe remained in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, a heavily populated municipality in the Delaware Valley plain southeast of Philadelphia.  Cherry Hill was originally a village of Lenni-Lenape Native Americans, who lived side by side early settlers from England, primarily the Quakers of William Penn who came to the area in the late 17th century.  The Colestown Cemetery today marks the site of the original settlement of Colestown.  Truly burgeoning population growth did not take place until after World War II, and this growth continued to the 1980’s.

Since he moved there in 2010, his days of taking strenuous hikes for miles are likely on hold for the moment. Still, he has found that these three items are extremely useful for him and hikers like him:

  • Headlamps. Most hikers who go for a day hike forget these often essential items because they don’t think the sun will go down on them while they are on the trail. But Greg Englesbe has learned that carrying a few lightweight headlamps in the event that a short hike turns into a long one is an extremely helpful use of space in the day pack.
  • Sunscreen. Even in shady forests, the sun at its most powerful can still hurt your skin. You may be in the sun for more time than you originally thought, so packing a tube of sunscreen is a great way to ensure you won’t get burnt on the trail at any point, as Greg Englesbe has.
  • Sandals. More of a comfort item than a survival one, packing an extra pair of flip-flops can make it easy to wade for a moment in the river during a break in the hike than stripping off your boots to go in barefoot. They also prevent injury when you want to wade in the water.

He works out regularly because he knows that regular exercise, especially cardio workouts, leads to a longer, healthier life. He claims to feel the positive effects every day after he completes his morning run. However, jogging is not for everyone.

Regular cardio workouts like jogging has positive effects on the heart and circulatory system because it strengthens the heart and makes it easier for the most vital organ to pump blood throughout the body. However, there are many cardio exercises that don’t stress the joints and ligaments as much, including swimming and using the elliptical machines at the gym.
